Quicken2MMEX – Convert Quicken Data to Money Manager Ex
Quicken2MMEX – User Guide
Transfer your financial data from Quicken to Money Manager Ex (MMEX)
Quicken2MMEX is a free Windows utility that converts Quicken QIF export files into a single QIF file suitable for importing into Money Manager Ex.
The program was developed to simplify the migration from Quicken to MMEX, particularly when transferring transactions between accounts and handling split transactions.
Main Features
Combines multiple Quicken QIF export files into one MMEX-compatible QIF file.
Automatically detects and processes transfers between accounts.
Converts split transfers into separate transactions, as MMEX does not support split transfers between accounts.
Detects corresponding transactions to avoid duplicate transfers.
Corrects transfer amounts and signs where necessary.
Preserves transaction dates, payees, categories and amounts whenever possible.
Generates a conversion report and a list of transactions requiring attention.
Supports English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
Automatically selects the language based on your Windows settings.
Runs as a standalone Windows EXE without requiring Python.
How to Use Quicken2MMEX
Step 1 – Export Your Quicken Accounts
Open Quicken and export each account separately using the QIF format.
Save all exported QIF files in the same folder, for example:
C:\QuickenExport\
CurrentAccount.QIF
SavingsAccount.QIF
CreditCard.QIF
CashAccount.QIF
Make sure all accounts you want to transfer are included.
Important: Export all related accounts, especially accounts involved in transfers. This allows Quicken2MMEX to identify corresponding transactions correctly.
Step 2 – Start Quicken2MMEX
Launch Quicken2MMEX.exe.
No installation or Python environment is required.
The program automatically selects the appropriate language based on your Windows settings. You can change the language manually if necessary.
Step 3 – Select the Export Folder
Select the folder containing your Quicken QIF files.
Quicken2MMEX automatically reads all .QIF files in the selected folder.
There is no need to select each file individually.
Step 4 – Convert the Data
Start the conversion.
Quicken2MMEX analyses the transactions across all accounts and performs the necessary conversions.
Special attention is given to transfers between accounts.
For example, a split transfer of 145.00 consisting of:
Groceries: 25.00
Car expenses: 120.00
is converted into two separate transfer transactions.
The program also attempts to identify and eliminate duplicate transfer entries.
The original Quicken export files remain unchanged.
Step 5 – Check the Results
After conversion, the program creates three output files:
MMEX_Import.QIF
Contains the converted transactions for importing into Money Manager Ex.
MMEX_Conversion_Report.txt
Provides information about the conversion, including processed transactions, detected transfers, excluded transactions and account balance checks.
MMEX_Unresolved.csv
Lists transactions that could not be converted or matched reliably and may require manual review.
Always check the conversion report before importing the data.
Step 6 – Import into Money Manager Ex
Start Money Manager Ex.
Create a new MMEX database, preferably for testing.
Open the QIF import function from the MMEX File menu.
Select the generated MMEX_Import.QIF file.
Adjust the date format (usually DD/MM/YY)
Follow the MMEX import instructions and verify the account assignments.
Compare the imported account balances with your original Quicken accounts.
Important: Do not import into your existing production database until you have verified the results.
Investment Accounts and Securities
Quicken2MMEX does not currently convert securities, investment holdings or stock transactions into MMEX investment records.
Unsupported investment transactions are excluded or reported separately.
Transfers involving investment accounts may require manual adjustments.
Performance
Quicken2MMEX is designed to process large QIF exports efficiently.
Initial synthetic testing with 30,000 transactions showed very short processing times. However, actual performance depends on the computer, file sizes and complexity of the transactions.
Large real-world databases still require further testing.
Important Notes
Always keep a backup of your original Quicken data.
Export all related accounts for the most reliable transfer matching.
Check account balances and transaction totals after importing.
Review the conversion report for warnings.
Investment accounts may require additional manual work.
Quicken2MMEX does not modify your original Quicken database.
